Greening Initiative
The GYRA Yorkville Greening Initiative

Sometime ago GYRA secured a $1 Million Section 37 contribution to kick-start our Greening Legacy Initiative.  That amount was recently topped up to $1.5 Million with the addition of a second Section 37 contribution of $550,000.  GYRA commissioned landscape architect John Quinn to develop a master greening plan.

GYRA's vision to re-establish the Village of Yorkville's "leafy green enclave" and to enhance the pedestrian experience is under way.   In October 2009, the first phase occurred with a walkabout with City staff from Public Realm, Planning and Transportation on residential streets in the north section of GYRA's purview.  Greening needs were determined for Hazelton Avenue at Davenport Road, Hazelton Avenue mid-block, Hillsborough Avenue at Davenport Road, Bishop Street, New Street and Berryman Street.  Tree planter boxes, planter beds and shrubs will be implemented at these locations.

GYRA's greening will complement the London plane trees and flower beds, which will line both sides of Bloor Street from Church Street to Avenue Road as part of the Bloor-Yorkville BIA's Bloor Street Transformation Project.
